Why is Polyester Clear Resin Glue Easy to Use?

2022-06-02

Ⅰ. The advantages of polyester clear resin glue

Most of the glass fiber parts are made of polyester clear resin glue, which is the most widely used resin type in the composite industry.

Polyester clear resin glue needs a catalyst to cure or harden, usually methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP). They are naturally UV resistant, easy to use, fast curing, resistant to temperature and catalyst changes, and are cheaper than epoxy systems.

Ⅱ. The reason why polyester clear resin glue is easy to use

Polyester clear resin glues are easy to use because they have a high thixotropy index. Basically, they have good adhesion on vertical surfaces, so the resin will not flow or drip when manufacturing parts and molds. They can also wet fabrics quickly and easily, and are easy to mix. As the most common type of resin in the industry, it may be difficult to narrow the commonly used range.

Although the above advantages make polyester clear resin glue widely used and are obviously favored in many applications, there are still some shortcomings that must be considered. First, the corrosion resistance of polyester is not as good as vinyl ester resin, or the ultimate strength is not as good as epoxy resin. Moreover, thin coatings of polyester resin can remain sticky when exposed to air.
